★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don't make a special trip, you can't get close enough to really see. But fortunately the amphitheatre is so good that it is worth the visit to Pozzuoli on its own and this is just an 10 min extra walk from there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a hidden gem for people intrested in ancient history it has been above and below see levels at different periods in its history and was mistaken for a temple at one time before it was discovered to have been a market in ancient times. Surrounded with some great restaurants it is very worth a visit when you are in the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Macellum of Pozzuoli.
The Macellum was a Roman market. The locals call it "Tempio di Serapide." It is very beautiful and is in very good conditions.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful .... the history of our city is so great ...... It was the ancient public Macellum in the Flavian age. It is so called because during the excavations of 1750 a statue of the Egyptian god Serapis was found.
It was the thermometer for the bradyseism of Pozzuoli, in fact on the columns of the temple there are signs related to the raising and lowering of the sea level over the centuries.
