★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We enjoyed a lovely dinner with my wife at la Locanda del Benaco, by the lungolago at Salò. The service is top-notch, friendly and caring. Owners and staff make you feel comfortable, even pampered, while you enjoy perfectly prepared dishes. Small details count a lot in terms of excellence, and we experienced two! At certain point one of the staff distributed delicious complimentary "fragole" (strawberries) amongst the guests seating at the tables. Later on, I asked a young woman for the "carta di dolci" (i.e. the desserts menu). She flashed a big smile, waved at herself, said "io sono la carta di dolci" (I am the desserts menu), and carefully explained the options. Sense of humor on top, what else can you ask for!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The restaurant is superb, well priced and elegant traditional food. Great accommodation (we had the balcony view). Breakfast was excellent too. Would highly recommend this hotel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located on the lake-shore. Good for people watching. Food unfortunately mediocre. Waiter made an effort but quality of food eg pasta over done, too much cream in Batarga pasta etc make at best a mid level tourist eatery instead of something little more gastronomic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the slippery slope. Was one of our favourites but our last visit was hard work. The head waitress was full of herself and if you’re not Italian she doesn’t want to know. Having booked two days in advance she wouldn’t let us have the table we requested, then offered it to every Italian who came in.
Seemed to be short staffed with the other waiter and waitress doing most of the work.
Food was still excellent though. My sea bass was first class and my wife enjoyed the chicken.
