★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La strada consolare Flaminia, che in questo punto attraversa la gola del Furlo, fu realizzata attorno al 220 a.C. per volere di Gaio Flaminio, come collegamento tra Roma e Rimini.
Il tratto dell’antica via, valicava qui l’Appennino, nell’impervia strettoia tra i monti Pietralata e Paganuccio, a sinistra del fiume Candigliano, in un percorso già frequentato in epoca preromana.
La Via Flaminia, comprende una lunga galleria che gli antichi chiamaromo “petra pertusa” o “forulus” da cui il nome di galleria del Furlo. Questa fu fatta scavare nel suo punto più stretto da Vespasiano, nel 77 d.C per consentire l’attraversamento degli Appennini dal versante tirrenico a quello adriatico. La galleria è alte circa 5 metri e profonda circa 38.
La nostra guida ci ha raccontato che sono state scavate a mano con gli scalpellini, scaldando la roccia che da prima veniva bagnata con l’aceto, per renderla un pochino più lavorabile.
Se vi avvicinerete abbastanza alla roccia, toccatela e guardate i segni che si vedono incisi sopra. Vedrete tanti segni di scalpello, che hanno creato questo capolavoro che resiste da secoli.
The Flaminia consular road, which crosses the Furlo gorge at this point, was built around 220 BC. at the behest of Gaius Flaminio, as a link between Rome and Rimini.
The stretch of the ancient road here crossed the Apennines, in the impervious bottleneck between the Pietralata and Paganuccio mountains, to the left of the Candigliano river, in a route already frequented in pre-Roman times.
The Via Flaminia includes a long tunnel that the ancients called “petra pertusa” or “forulus” hence the name of the Furlo tunnel. This was excavated at its narrowest point by Vespasian in 77 AD to allow the crossing of the Apennines from the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic side. The gallery is about 5 meters high and about 38 meters deep.
Our guide told us that they were dug by hand with stonemasons, heating the rock that was previously wetted with vinegar, to make it a little more workable.
If you get close enough to the rock, touch it and look at the marks you see engraved on it. You will see many chisel marks, which have created this masterpiece that has endured for centuries.

Per la scarsità di parcheggio è difficoltoso percorrere la galleria a piedi anche se percorrerla in auto è sufficiente
Una visita o un picnic sono da consigliare anche se è da evitare per le feste comandate... un delirio, da urlo!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Strada e relativo passo chiuso a causa di una frana sulla strada. Si può percorrere un pezzo di strada a piedi, arrivando da Dalmazzo fino al cosidetto "chiavicotto" dalla parte della diga e relativa centrale Enel. Gole molto caratteristiche.
