R	Rosita Matera on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La " Torre dell' Orologio" sita a Cerignola in via Antonio Gramsci, è ciò che rimane dell'antico castello, possedimento del feudatario Simone de Parisis, successivamente di Ugone de Vicini, Giovanni Pipino da Barletta e Niccolò Pipino, conte di Minervino. Trasformato in Palazzo Ducale, continuò per molto tempo ad essere circondato da un fossato. Originariamente, sul lato Est, era arricchito da due torrioni che corrispondevano alla porta della città. A ciascuno corrispondeva una scala segreta da cui si poteva accedere ad un cunicolo sotteraneo che terminava all' interno del borgo, nei pressi della Chiesa Madre. Anticamente segnava l' ingresso Sud del borgo, attraverso Largo Costantino Imperatore ( già Piazza del Torneo). Il castello, nel corso dei secoli, subì svariati crolli, dovuti in parte al terremoto del 1627, e nel 1731 un' altro sisma ne decretò il tracollo della struttura. Nel 1943 ci fu la ricostruzione di ciò che rimase dell' antico maniero che fu assemblato ad altre costruzioni. Ma l' attuale torre, costruita nel XIX , sostituì la precedente, fatta abbattere dal conte D' Egmont nel 1804. Originariamente, la struttura risultava essere molto più alta, ma nel 1866, colpita da un fulmine, venne in gran parte danneggiata. Attualmente il palazzo ospita l' Intendenza di Finanza e l' Ufficio del Registro.
