★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tappa turistica imperdibile nell'area del petilino, l’insediamento rupestre di Colle della Chiesa in Petilia Policastro consta di 30 grotte, posizionate lungo un antico tratturo in cui transitavano una buona parte delle greggi e degli armenti provenienti dalle pianure del Marchesato e dirette sull’altopiano della Sila. Esso stesso il villaggio rupestre fu sito di pastori seminomadi posto sul baricentro tra i pascoli montani e quelli delle pianure costiere.
Di grotte ve ne sono prestoriche ma anche e soprattutto di età bizantina e qualcuna di più recente escavazione. Non manca nemmeno la parte fortificata posta più in alto. Oltre alla pastorizia sono servite, ad agricoltori, a sericoltori, anche a laboratorio di scalpellini. Ma non mancano antri che ospitarono di tanto in tanto eremiti con presenza di croci ed icone. Il sito di Colle della chiesa ripercorre insomma nei secoli la storia di Petilia Policastro, toccando punti molto interessanti non solo di tante attività ma delle tradizioni e dei costumi popolari.
