L'importanza del castello, che nel basso medioevo era sia struttura militare che residenza, conferiva valore all'intero paese. Oggi sono cospicui i resti del castello, che ha forma quadrangolare con torri angolari cilindriche, una torre quadrata sull’angolo ad Est e resti del ponte levatoio. Conclusa la primaria funzione difensiva, in epoca moderna il castello divenne residenza nobiliare. Ampliato nel XV e nel XVII secolo, fu feudo dei Gentile, Regibaio, dei D’Aquino di Castiglione, dei Caponsacco, dei Torres e degli Amalfitano. Questi ultimi acquisirono prima il titolo di Marchese e poi di Conte. Di proprietà del comune è visitabile (su appuntamento) ed è sede del Museo dell'arte contadina; non resta nulla delle 23 camere che costituivano l'antica residenza, ma si vede un'ottima vista panoramica a 360° sul borgo, e sia in lontananza verso a Est il mar jonio e a Ovest verso la Sila. Ottima la tenuta del paese, il castello è composto dalle mura, scale con alzata un po alta, non molto accessibile a persone con disabilita' motoria penso sopra al 50%. Quando si arriva al secondo livello v'è il museo - della civiltà contadina- in quota si gode un panorama meraviglioso di colline bellissime coltivate. In lontananza si scorge la Sila. Sul lato opposto il mare con il faro di Punta Alice che fa' occhiolino. venite come ospiti, ospitalità che solo in Calabria si può avere.
