Very nice building and nice beach but Hotel is old and it's showing. I love a nice vintage look but not when everything is falling apart. The first room we had was a disgrace, definitely not 5 star-worthy. Big wad of hair was left on the very gross looking stained old carpet. Also, my son's extra bed was made with just one sheet put right on top of the matress with no extra layer or protection - so unhygienic. I asked for extra sheets but had to make his bed myself since I was just handed the sheets... The bathroom was really horrible looking, didn't even want to use it. We asked to change rooms and the next day got a much nicer one, with parquet flooring. Cleaning was still not very good since the fly I killed stayed there for the rest of our stay! Overall, everything is way overpriced considering the condition the hotel is in. We enjoyed our stay but I would not stay here again or recommend this hotel until it undergoes some seriously needed renovation. Breakfast was good but service is terrible.

Facility and structure is as expected from a 5 star hotel. Rooms are a little old and beaches (beware of jellyfish!). The only big problem with this hotel that makes me give it 2 stars is the fact that the custom er service/concierge is worse that any hotel I’ve seen. I wanted to have dinner at the first day but they said that for the next 3 days the dinner places are fully booked. And at Ferragosto day I wanted to have dinner at the terrace restaurant with my family but were were denied, and ended up eating at the bar. The waiter was kind enough to tell us that most of the dinner clients are not hotel clients and are invited guests that are not staying at the hotel/VIP people that know the hotel’s staff. I ate pizza day and night for the first 3 days. Another instance is when we wanted to reserve a beach tent but they were all reserved (filled up by non-hotel clients). Breakfast and food service is all extremely slow and inefficient. Every time I order tea it never comes unless I argue with the waiters. EXPECT TO BE SERVED LAST IF YOU ARE STAYING AT THE HOTEL. I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND STAYING IF YOU KNOW THE OWNERS. If not, you will have a frustrating time fighting the managers to get a possibility of using the services. It is totally unacceptable for a hotel to not prioritize its’s services for the guests that are staying.

This is a great hotel to stay when you are in Venice. Especially when you want to stay more than a day and want to enjoy the sun. They are directly situated at the beach, and this beach is very clean and quit. If you want to have a cabana (including one bed, two relax chairs, a bowl with fresh water, table with two chairs and a place where you change or let your baby or child can sleep) I advice you to book it via the hotel. It is expensive but if you stay a few days it is a welcome luxury. You can also use their shower/toilets. And they offer you a special beach wheelchair. The hotel offers you a free shuttle service by boat to the city every 30 minutes! Their is a good International breakfast with free coffee. Due to Covid-regulations you cannot take the food and drinks yourself but their are enough waiters to serve you. The hotel is renovating their rooms to get it up to date. We have had a junior suite which was not renovated yet but the main equipment was present. A good Illy coffee machine, great bed, daily fresh up from bed and bathing room, good working and new airconditioning, lots of space to hang your clothes and a great shower. Ok their where some stains in the carpet (which you only see as you read about it as I did), but the room is very clean and the household staff is very friendly. The breakfast is from a good quality and the lunch (we had half board) was great. The Terrace, restaurant and the main hall where completely renovated. My advice is to ask for an offer directly at the hotel it self (especially if you want to rent a cabana). Then you can get what you want and the hotel does not have to pay to the middle man or booking agency so you get a much better offer. If they get all rooms renovated with the standards from a modern 5 star hotel my stay would be a bit more excellent. I was missing a magnifier mirror, modern electric contacts, a iron and a iron board, some fresh fruit but that are minor things. The congierge is very help full. And a tip: take the watertaxi directly from the airport. It will bring you directly to the hotel in 30-40 minutes and you have a first terrific glance at the Venetian Lagune.

A big disappointment. The only 2 things of 5 star luxury about this place are the food and the price, the rest is three star maybe. Dated room falling apart. Dirty windows glass, detached baseboard, stained and peeling bathtub wall. Radiator peeling, toilet seat worn and cracked. Hearty breakfast but to have an omelette with mushrooms and salmon or other ingredients you have to pay an extra 12 or 14 euros. Inattentive staff. We waited for 20 minutes on the terrace and no one bothered to say hello or ask us if we wanted to eat. After calling a waitress we had to wait another 15 minutes to get drinks. At the beach level bar we were greeted with a: "we are closing" instead of a: "welcome gentlemen what can I bring you?". It was 17 minutes before closing and they charged us 44 euros for two Aperol spritzes and a bottle of water. A robbery. Extremely limited menu. Tables in the little restaurant / bar and restaurant (available only in the evening) on the same terrace. Some types of dishes available only from 18.30 to 21.30. Restaurant closed at 21.30 in August in a seaside resort, practically ridiculous. Suitable place for elderly people who eat at 6.30 pm and go to bed with the chickens. In general, little or no attention to customers and poor communication. After paying 1,647 euros for 3 nights and another 1,517 for the restaurant, we were unable to get a sunbed or deck chair to stay on the beach. All the tents occupied (according to them). They gave us a towel to lay on the sand, like commuters who take their sandwiches from home. Worthy of the zero-star pension from 30 euros per night. We had to opt for the swimming pool but we could not choose where to put ourselves because where we wanted it was booked (after more than 3 hours the "reserved" sunbeds were still free). The most total disappointment. Highly NOT recommended place.

The best thing about this hotel is what's outside and not the hotel itself. The beach, arriving at the home by the water taxi and the breakfasts are really good :) some.of the staff speaks English and some don't. The rooms haven't been renovated in year's and could definitely use lifting - there is no indoor wellness and in general the whole experience was disappointing. 3 stars for the sky above and the water surrounding the hotel.

I’d love to say we stay here often. But we don’t! We travel far too frequently to be able to stay anywhere as classy as this, as I write this in early May 2022 we have just returned from our 6th holiday of the year, This being said, each year without fail we come to Lido, walk along the beach and come up via the Excelsior and have drinks on the terrace. The service you receive is very good, the waiters are always charming, but I guess they would be given the level of high end clientele they have to deal with. This yearly ritual of ours started back in 2018 when with little knowledge of Lido we stumbled across the hotel, I was drawn by the Arabic design, then of course the penny dropped this is the hotel that stars and filmmakers stay at during the Venice Film Festival. The festival is vast and I believe now the Hotel Des Bains has gone, that it’s the largest hotel in Lido and the third largest hotel in Venice. The environment is very low key, which is nice, the main lobby is very spacious with large statues and fresh flowers. U fortunately presumably due to Covid, for the first time ever we came up through the beach and sat in our usual spot waiting for service, it never came. So we simply went on our way, the bar area on the left passed the lobby (when entering via the front) was deserted. Maybe everyone was busy? As I said we left with no real human engagement, the last time we visited during 2021’s Venice film festival or even 2020’s August visit there were staff EVERYWHERE. Times have changed obviously and while we had no joy this time and at one point the only member to see us looked like he was going to chase us out of the building, we’ll come again. And maybe, just maybe the next time I’m invited to Venice Film Festival (which so far I’ve always had to decline) I’ll take up the offer and stay here, if only for one night. If you can afford to stay here, you should, this is so much more than a place that you stay, from the private dock, to the sunny beach, give Excelsior a chance.

Nicely decorated hotel. Lots of history to the hotel. Rooms are comfortable but a bit jaded. The beach fronting the hotel is lovely on a sunny day. The hotel shuttle boat makes it convenient to visit the main part of Venice.
