★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is not a touristic "gondola ride", it's a foot ferry in a gondola; a way to get across the canal without walking to a vaporetto station or the nearest bridge. Definitely the poor-man's gondola and well worth the experience, as well as convenient and generally quick. Walk up, hand the ferry-man your coin and they'll paddle you across in a few minutes. There's not a lot of freeboard, so sit down and hold still, especially in rough weather.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to that spot to take a picture but then I saw there is a gondola carrying people just for €2. We couldn't believe the price and began to read the instructions. Then the owner of the gondola shouted to us by speaking Italian and my friend said we didn't speak Italian. Then the man asked whether we wanted to use the service. We said no because we couldn't be sure about the price. When they leave we asked a local about the price and she confirmed the price was €2. Me and my friend decided to use the gondola and to wait for the gondola. The guy who spoke Italian to us came again and we said we wanted to use the service. He said the price is €5:( he was so serious and stared at us so disturbing. I thought people in Venice were so friendly and helpful especially for the tourists but this unpleasant man changed my mind. It's a shame!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The San Tomà gondelieri are absolutely fantastic. Our gondeliere spoke English and was very knowledgeable.Also the gondola was extremely beautiful and full of details. He took us on a tour through all of the private canals in Venice so we got to see a side of the city that most tourists don't get to. He was very skilled in navigating through the canals. The tour was beautiful and extremely enjoyable. I would definitely reccomend this tour. He also explained to us a lot of interesting facts and history of Venice. Definitely worth the money. It is a once in a life experience.
