R	Romolo Pranzetti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bellissima piazza con torre, chiesa e fontana. Dal 1274 la piazza sulla quale incombe la torre del Borgognone, fu anche sede del mercato. La chiesa del Gesù, di cui si hanno notizie già nell'XI secolo, e andò in rovina a partire dal 1638. Il disegno della facciata presenta due piccoli leoni sugli spioventi della copertura, che possono testimoniare l'esistenza di un portico. La chiesa fu teatro di un grave fatto si sangue ricordato anche da Dante nella prima cantica della Divina Commedia: l'efferata uccisione, proprio durante la consacrazione eucaristica, di Enrico di Cornovaglia, cugino di Edoardo d'Inghilterra, da parte di Guido di Monfort, avvenuta nel 1271, al ritorno da una delle crociate. Al centro della piazza si trova una antica fontana in peperino risalente al 1450. Nel 1923 fu interamente ricostruita. Beautiful square with a tower, church and fountain. È chiamata anche col nome della chiesa. Le prime notizie riguardanti la fontana risalgono al 1450. Più volte rimaneggiata nel corso dei secoli, fu acquistata dalla famiglia Chigi nel 1727. L’attuale fontana è stata ricostruita nel 1923, armonizzando elementi di gusto medievale con l’unica parte superstite di una fontana rinascimentale, proveniente dal chiostro dell’ormai scomparso convento di San Domenico, riutilizzata come coppa inferiore. È composta da tre vasche sovrapposte di digradante grandezza, al centro della vasca inferiore si innalza un pilastro, formato da sei colonnine con capitello corinzio, che regge una vasca circolare decorata da teste di leone, dalle quali fuoriesce acqua. Da questa seconda vasca si innalza un fusto decorato da tre teste di leone, una di bue, una di cavallo e una di pecora, che regge la vasca più piccola decorata con foglie d’acanto.
