★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Accanto al Foro Vittorio Emauele II (la banchina alberata del 1836... classica passeggiata siracusana...) c'è un tratto di Antiche Mura Spagnole, chiamate anche Muraglia dei Cattivi (da "captivus" cioè prigioniero, schiavo) utilizzate anticamente, e, a lungo, come delle prigioni.
Questa è la probabile origine del nome della vicina Fontana degli Schiavi (XVI sec.) che, trovandosi all'esterno delle mura, venne adoperata soprattutto dai naviganti di passaggio dalla città.
 Next to the Foro Vittorio Emauele II (the tree-lined quay of 1836 ... classic Syracusan walk ...) there is a stretch of Ancient Spanish Walls, also called Muraglia dei Cattivi (from "captivus" that is prisoner, slave) used in ancient times, and, for a long time, like prisons.
This is the probable origin of the name of the nearby Fontana degli Schiavi (16th century) which, being outside the walls, was mainly used by sailors passing through the city.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ " LA FONTANA DEGLI SCHIAVI " Fu realizzata nel 1571 in sostituzione di una precedente fontanella che sgorgava sul lido per comodo dei dei naviganti, il detto fonte le galee di Malta si provvedevano dell' acqua con gli schiavi. L' acqua che vi sgorgava probabilmente proveniva dalla stessa vena della Fonte Aretusa. L' Aquila dello stemma di Siracusa reca nel petto una torre, altrimenti detta castello turrito. Essa è quanto rimane dell' antico stemma della città: la torre, appunto,cache fu usata dal XV secolo al XVII secolo. Accanto alla FONTANA DEGLI SCHIAVI si trova lo stemma del Principe di Ligne, Vivere' di Sicilia ( 1670 - 1674 ) .
"LA FONTANA DEGLI SCHIAVI" It was built in 1571 to replace a previous fountain that flowed on the shore for the sake of the sailors, the said source the galleys of Malta provided the water with the slaves. The water that flowed from it probably came from the same vein as the Fonte Aretusa. The Aquila of the coat of arms of Syracuse bears a tower in the chest, otherwise called turreted castle. It is what remains of the ancient coat of arms of the city: the tower, precisely, cache was used from the fifteenth century to the seventeenth century. Next to the FONTANA DEGLI SCHIAVI is the coat of arms of the Prince of Ligne, Vivere 'di Sicilia (1670 - 1674).

La Fonte si trova lungo il Foro Vittorio Emanuele II, luogo di passeggiata di Siracusa.
Rimane un po' nascosta alla vista, ed i turisti sono attratti dalla vicina Fonte Aretusa. Meriterebbe di esser messa in evidenza.
