Not to be missed. To visit together with the national archaeological museum and the necropolis of the tuff crucifix.

Well-kept and very interesting museum: worth a visit ... among other things, it is one of the best viewpoints of the Duomo .. forewarned photographers, get ready with the wide angle

Apart from that from this museum you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Duomo, in the square itself two beautiful museums rich in finds in the rich territory of what was considered the federal capital of Etrurioa (there are discussions on this topic), but for those who have visited the territory and is aware of the Etruscan art from the necropolis, including that of the tuff crucifix) is the place to visit without neglecting the national Etruscan museum in the rooms adjacent to the cathedral.

Really interesting museum on the Etruscan theme, located right in front of the Cathedral of Orvieto.

A strange experience, a museum seemingly more intent on telling you about its founders than about the history or context of its exhibits. We had previously visited the museum and tombs at Cerveteri (on the coast between Orvieto and Rome) where we enjoyed the 3D displays and audio explanations, so were surprised at the lack of explanation here. In fact you get more insight into 19th century Italian life than 6th century Etruscans - the display boards say that the 19th century desire to collect and display ancient artefacts ran up against resistance from those who saw this as an attack on personal property and privacy; and that collectors were sometimes motivated by a desire to escape the uncertainties and challenges of modern life by burying themselves in the past! Excellent view of the Duomo from the first floor balcony.
