Small but excellent museum on medieval culture and sacred arts. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light and tripod.

A sad story. This museum possesses an incomparable collection of twelfth century ivories: really extremely beautiful. And as far as I have seen, also some other medieval pieces of value. The state of maintenance however is saddening. Something has to be done urgently.

Judging by the previous reviews, the display of the wonderful ivories has been recently refurbished. They are now in smart display cabinets, beautifully lit and with information in Italian and English. There is a room which shows several altenative ideas for the original arrangement of the ivories. If you are arriving by train, get off one stop early at Salerno Duomo - Via Vernieri and the Diocesan Museum is 3 minutes’ walk. Very highly recommended.

Its a well maintained museum from inside. While from outside, it looks quite old and worn off.. In spite of using google maps, the location was touch to find... U need to climb steps on the interior roads to reach here. The collection of ivory files of bible and ancient paintings are marvellous. Photograph was not allowed!

Wow. The Salerno ivories are an amazing, medieval treasure. I came to Salerno primarily to see these ivories and I was so excited to have the Museo to ourselves with NO crowds to spend time viewing the ivories. I wish there had been more background on where the we're found and the history. There were blank displays with no indication of what was there, which was odd. Also note that there is no heater in the museum, so it is cold in Winter!
