This tour is better than just showing up for the cave tours because they only take you inside but you can't go all the way up high for views of the exterior quarries unless you have the right vehicle and permission to drive all the way up.

I emailed CTTours and very quickly received a reply from Umberto. I told him exactly what we wanted to do and when. Umberto arranged a wonderful and exciting day for us that we will never forget! Carrara is so amazing and different; even great for kids! Don't miss the 4 x 4 tour to the top of the quarry!

On 25 aug around 1:30 o'clock we(2 adults with 1 child) drove up to the mountain at the reception where 4×4 jeeps starts the journey. According to the website less than 20 people booking is not possible. As website says we went at the reception for the first available trip. One of the guys who operates the jeep behave badly with us and told us that the trip is not possible anymore on that day. Whereas the website says the trip runs until 5 o'clock. Thus we had more 3 hours to go. When I asked about the next trip he told me the next day. Too annoying. I was from the Netherlands to visit the place but now have this terrible experience of Carrara, Italy. PLEASE TREAT FOREIGNERS IN RIGHT WAY. TRY TO LEARN ABOUT PROVIDING SERVICES.

From the tops of the mountains where the marble is excavated, to a stone yard that finishes slices and polishes, to an artisan workshop making custom pieces for private clients, the entire 2.5 hours was beautiful jaw dropping and very very very informative and interesting (for those that find stones and hand made finishes and materials and finishes interesting!)

We booked with Umberto to take our party of 6 to San Gimignano, Siena and a local winery (Il Cellese). Umberto was the perfect guide offering various information regarding the Tuscany region as well as providing us with a comfortable and spacious van to accommodate our larger party. I would recommend Umberto to any group looking to travel the region. Thank you so much!
