★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Abbiamo preso l'aperitivo in questo caffè nel cuore di Matera. Spritz di buona qualità, unico appunto è sul servizio: almeno un paio di stuzzichini avrebbero potuto portarli insieme alle bevande, in orario da aperitivo è prassi un po' dappertutto.
 We had an aperitif in this cafe in the heart of Matera. Spritz of good quality, the only note is on the service: at least a couple of appetizers could have brought them together with the drinks, in aperitif time it is practice a bit everywhere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visto che ad agosto è impossibile cenare nei Sassi senza prenotare un tavolo, il Caffè Italia ha pienamente soddisfatto le nostre aspettative: ottimo il tagliere e ok l'insalatona. Certo, per cenare bisogna attendere qualche minuto che si liberino i tavoli degli aperitivi, ma nel frattempo un cameriere dalla verve comica intrattiene i clienti con battute top.
Since in August it is impossible to dine in the Sassi without booking a table, Caffè Italia has fully met our expectations: excellent cutting board and ok salad. Of course, to dine you have to wait a few minutes for the aperitif tables to be free, but in the meantime a waiter with comic verve entertains customers with top jokes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Walked around to find a bathroom. As it turns out, the public bathrooms are coin operated and the one we found near this cafe was locked. So, we came in for a drink and use their bathroom, after a number of restaurants don't have one, (what gives?) This cafe had a clean bathroom and the drinks were very reasonably priced. Got a local craft beer for 5 Euros, (regular price beers are around 3). Not a tourist trap. Sat outside across the church of Purgatory watching people go by, while the wife search for our dinner options.
