The idea was to take a full day trip to Cinque Terre, which during August is scheduled on Wednesdays, and that is leaving at 9:00 from Rapallo. Well, it was simply impossible to take this trip. We called them since the day before, and they kept telling that the weather had to be evaluated by the captain, to finally say that the trip was cancelled half an hour before! Apparently this is sense of responsibility towards passengers (there are no big and safe harbors in Cinque Terre etc.), but... weather forecasts (also for sea and winds) are nowdays quite reliable, so to not know until half an hour before if the trip is taking place is ridicoulous. The proof: finally we went to Cinque Terre that same morning by motorbike, the sea was quite calm, other ferries were travelling without problems, and overall we came to the obvious conclusion = they cancelled the trip because they deemed they did not have enough passengers to cover the minimal costs (in August!). How is it possible that in 2015 they don't have a booking form on their website, with a simple mechanism to reimbourse passengers if a trip is cancelled? This is not science fiction! They should take some time to check how similar services for tourists work around the world, and by the way also speed up to accept credit cards for paying tickets. People keep complaining on the economical crisis in Italy and so on, but there is not so much to expect if they offer services of such quality!

Old boats, no air-condition, very unpolite staff. Take the train is cheaper, faster and by far better

Would be good if you can put the note on the timetable that there is no ferry from Rapollo to Portofino in 2019! It is only a note after more search and clicks on your website. So we paid day car parking in Rapollo for nothing (see it as a present dear city Rapollo) As there was no ferry there we went to St. Margarita and went by bus. Cheaper as ferry anyway.

Today we took the trip to visit the Cinque Terre (linea 5 ). We were supposed to visit one of the smaller cities for about 2 hours and Monterosso for three hours. Beforehand they announced the itinerary could change due to sea conditions. Despite it beng a clear day with not much wind and a calm sea the captain only went slowly past four of the islands and announced (only in Italian) that the risk of visiting them was too great. Most people on the boat didn't understand why. As a result, we were left in Monterosso for almost 5 hours. Monterosso is nice, but it is small and after two hours you'll have seen everything three times.. The public beach (where our two sons could swim) was quite small, where as the private beach is too expensive for this stay (we would have to pay at least 40 euros to spend some time there). So I can't advise to take this trip for this money (we paid € 116 for two adults and two kids).

We rode the boat to Cinque Terre. It was a 2.5 hour trip with two stops. The first stop was for about an hour and the second stop was for about 2.5 hours. During the trip there were announcements, first in Italian and then in English detailing trivia about the towns and different landmarks. The boat was nothing fancy, simple and clean. FYI they are punctual; when they say leaving at 3:40 they start pulling away at 3:40 and 50 seconds, so keep that in mind. If you sit on the top deck bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen. It's easy to become enthralled by the scenery and forget that you're sitting out in the sun.

Horrible experience! We have visited the shop 3 times to book the ticket in Chiavari . It was always closed , even if written down that should be open. Finally a friendly guardian told us that we should arrive 5 min before the boot departure and buy our tickets there. We arrived 45 min before and get an angry women telling us that we needed to make a reservation by phone. Not possible to buy the tickets as the boot is full. Really big disappointment for the kids hoping to have a lovely trip.
