Tale opera fu voluta da Pio VI, su progetto dell'urbanista Valadier. Ma Pio VI non vide neanche posare la prima pietra di tale chiesa. Dovettero passare anni e attendere il 1831 per l'apertura del cantiere per la fabbrica della Chiesa Nuova. Infatti nel 1830 il nuovo progetto fu affidato al giovane architetto urbanista Antonio Sarti. La chiesa fu ultimata dopo 15 anni nel 1845. Faceva parte di un ampio progetto di abbellimento e rinascita della città di Terracina. Da vedere. L	Lina , ma non è lina on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bella questa chiesa. Ampia e pulita. È una grande statua del Salvatore situata sull'altare che accoglie a braccia aperte il pellegrino che entra in Chiesa. m	marianna fogliano on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesa maestosa per le sue tante colonne esterne ed interne altissime pero' entrando non si presenta fredda ma pulita e lineare tutto ordinato e al suo posto... insomma rigorosa ma accogliente la preferisco a tante altre che hanno oggetti e icone sparsi ovunque senza ordine. Peccato che di sera non è sempre aperta ma quando lo è consiglio vivamente di visitarla e di lasciare una preghiera ai piedi della Madonna che si trova subito dopo entrando sulla sinistra.
