Con molta probabilità questo fu sempre stato un territorio sul quale si edificò per uso sacro infatti prima di questa chiesa ve ne era un'altra in stile rinascimentale. Le sue traccie sono visibili tutt'ora nella Chiesa attuale. Infatti uno dei campanili reca un bassorilievo sul quale è raffigurato il cristo simbolo dell'albero della vita; sono presenti ancora i muri adiacenti alla torre dove ora viene riposta la legna oppure è possibile visitare ancora il portale della cappella della visitazione e le muraglie interne al campanile dove sono ancora visibili le buche delle campane. Alla chiesa arcaica è riconducilbile anche la fonte battistero in noce con decorazioni in oro che fu restaurato nel 1980 e ancora la fonte battesimale in pietra. Lo stemma, su decisione del comune, fu spostato dal vecchio al nuovo edificio religioso ed è stato collocato sul pilastro posizionato a sinistra dell'altare maggiore. La chiesa con questo simbolo non era solo luogo sacro ma anche il difensore del simbolo di tutta la comunità.
