★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Construida originalmente en el siglo XII, ha sufrido varias reformas a lo largo de su historia, particularmente en el siglo XVI, coincidiendo con la construcción del Palazzo dell'archivio, hoy ayuntamiento de la población. Su estilo es de transición entre el románico y el gótico, estando su interior dividido en tres naves, conservándose varios frescos, destacando dos de principios del siglo XVI: un nicho que muestra una Crucifixión con San Antonio y San Lorenzo, con un fondo que puede ser el lago de Bolsena, y San Sebastián y San Roque en las paredes laterales; en otro nicho podemos ver una Virgen entronizada con el niño entre Santa Bárbara y Santa Lucía, con San Sebastián y San Mamiliano en los laterales, éste datado en 1508. En el ábside destaca un ciborio prerrománico de mármol blanco, compuesto de cuatro columnas con capiteles corintios que soportan una cúpula cónica octogonal, decorado con motivos animales, vegetales y geométricos. Nos dio la impresión de encontrarse en obras, ya que el interior estaba bastante sucio y descuidado, desprovisto totalmente de mobiliario; no obstante, no deja de ser una iglesia excepcional, cuya visita es obligada.
 Originally built in the 12th century, it has undergone several reforms throughout its history, particularly in the 16th century, coinciding with the construction of the Palazzo dell'archivio, today the town hall of the town. Its style is transitional between Romanesque and Gothic, its interior being divided into three naves, conserving several frescoes, highlighting two from the early sixteenth century: a niche that shows a Crucifixion with Saint Anthony and Saint Lawrence, with a background that can be the lake of Bolsena, and San Sebastián and San Roque on the side walls; in another niche we can see a Virgin enthroned with the child between Santa Barbara and Santa Lucia, with San Sebastián and San Mamiliano on the sides, this one dated 1508. In the apse there is a pre-Romanesque white marble ciborium, composed of four columns with capitals Corinthians supporting an octagonal conical dome, decorated with animal, plant and geometric motifs. It gave us the impression of being under construction, since the interior was quite dirty and neglected, totally devoid of furniture; however, it is still an exceptional church, whose visit is a must.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Non ha nulla da invidiare al Duomo, né come bellezza, né come storia. Situata al centro del borgo è sicuramente da visitare. Conserva intatto il fascino mistico del suo tempo.
It has nothing to envy of the Duomo, neither as a beauty nor as a story. Located in the center of the village it is definitely worth visiting. It preserves the mystical charm of its time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa è situata nella piazza centrale del piccolo borgo si Sovana, la costruzione risale al sec. XII, l'entrata si tro a sul fianco destro ed il suo interno e suddiviso in tre navate. Oltre allo stupendo Ciborio in pietra di arte protoromanica si possono ammirare dei bellissimi affreschi. Ingresso libero ed è aperta fino a tarda sera (agosto) infatti la visita notturna è veramente molto suggestiva.
The church is located in the central square of the small village of Sovana, the construction dates back to the century. XII, the entrance is on the right side and its interior is divided into three naves. In addition to the stupendous stone Ciborium of early Romanesque art, you can admire some beautiful frescoes. Free admission and it is open until late evening (August) in fact the night visit is really very suggestive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Piccolo gioiello nel borgo di Sovana. Al suo interno un bellissimo ciborio intagliato che rappresenta forse l'unico esempio di arte preromanica in Toscana.
Vi si accede attraverso una piccola porta laterale. Molto belli anche gli affreschi. Merita una visita così come il piccolo borgo di Sovana.
Little jewel in the village of Sovana. Inside there is a beautiful carved ciborium which is perhaps the only example of pre-Romanesque art in Tuscany.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kościół Santa Maria Maggiore w centrum Sovany to czynny kościół. Można zajrzeć na mszę, ale kościół otwarty jest do późnego wieczoru, pięknie oświetlony, romański, robi niesamowite wrażenie. Posiada oryginalne XI wieczne cyborium, stare malowidła, detale architektoniczne.
The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in the center of Sovana is a working church. You can see the mass, but the church is open until late evening, beautifully lit, Romanesque, it makes an amazing impression. It has an original 11th-century ciborium, old paintings, and architectural details.
