★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Forse bisogna guardare alle chiese costruite dopo il sisma del 1908 a Messina in maniera diversa. Leggo infatti che non sarebbero dei capolavori. Posto che vorrei capire il senso dato a questo termine e considerato che l'architettura delle città è sempre un insieme molto vario di elementi, è vero invece che tanti di questi edifici hanno delle caratteristiche tipologiche apprezzabili e una finezza di decorazione decisamente sofisticata. Tutto questo lo possiamo verificare in San Domenico al Dazio, dove i bracci dei transetto e l'abside centrale sono impostati sullo stesso numero di moduli strutturali. Le colonne non sono slanciate ma l'insieme è arioso e bel illuminato. Originale l'ingresso rialzato e con una inusuale balconata e arcone a tutta facciata. Interessante la trama differenziata degli intonaci.
Perhaps we need to look at the churches built after the 1908 earthquake in Messina in a different way. In fact, I read that they would not be masterpieces. Given that I would like to understand the meaning given to this term and considering that the architecture of cities is always a very diverse set of elements, it is instead true that many of these buildings have appreciable typological characteristics and a decidedly sophisticated finesse of decoration. All this can be verified in San Domenico al Dazio, where the arms of the transept and the central apse are set to the same number of structural modules. The columns are not slender but the whole is airy and beautifully lit. The raised entrance is original with an unusual balcony and full-fronted arch. The differentiated texture of the plasters is interesting.
