Giovanni Decollato) alla fine del 1500. Terminata nel 1606, come recita l'epigrafe in facciata, tradotta: "La Compagnia dei Disciplini dedicò nell’anno del Signore 1606 questa Chiesa a Dio Ottimo e Massimo, alla Vergine della Neve, che è pari a Dio ed al Precursore di Cristo". La facciata è animata dal semplice portale in marmo di Botticino. Al centro della chiesa, sul pavimento, si vedono due chiusini o lastre tombali relative alle sepolture dei membri della Compagnia, morti di peste. La vera perla del tempio è la pala posta sull’altare maggiore e raffigurante la Decollazione di S. Giovanni Battista davanti a Salomè. Questo capolavoro pre-caravaggesco fu eseguito nel 1584 da Giovan Battista Trotti detto il Malosso, esponente di primo piano della scuola manieristica cremonese. La chiesa era aperta al momento della mia visita (domenica pomeriggio); è ben illuminata e manutenuta. Parcheggio a pochi metri di distanza. This light-colored church stands in Villa and was commissioned by the lay Confraternity of the Discipline (Confraternita di S. Giovanni Decollato) at the end of 1500. Completed in 1606, as the epigraph on the facade says, translated: "The Company of Disciplines dedicated in the year of the Lord 1606 this Church to God Excellent and Maximum, to the Virgin of the Snow, who is equal to God and to the Forerunner of Christ ". The façade is animated by the simple Botticino marble portal. In the center of the church, on the floor, you can see two manhole covers or tombstones relating to the burials of the members of the Company, who died of the plague. The real pearl of the temple is the altarpiece placed on the main altar and depicting the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in front of Salome. This pre-Caravaggesque masterpiece was executed in 1584 by Giovan Battista Trotti known as Malosso, a leading exponent of the Cremonese mannerist school. The church was open at the time of my visit (Sunday afternoon); it is well lit and well maintained. Parking a few meters away.
