Il progetto viene tradizionalmente attribuito ad Andrea Costaguta, anch'egli carmelitano, molto legato alla casa regnante sabauda, che portò la fabbrica quasi a completamento, sostituito dal confratello Alessandro Valperga. La chiesa subì rilevanti danni dai bombardamenti del 1943, la facciata rischiò di staccarsi e parte del tetto venne distrutto provocando danni all'interno tra cui una delle due porte intarsiate dal celebre ebanista Pietro Piffetti. Gli eventi bellici sono inoltre responsabili della distruzione degli edifici attigui, poi ricostruiti nel secondo dopoguerra. The church was built for the Carmelite fathers on the initiative of Madame Reale Cristina of France in 1642, as part of the new expansion of the city; it seems that the stones of the adjacent Porta Marmorea, one of the four Roman gates, were used in the construction site. The project is traditionally attributed to Andrea Costaguta, also a Carmelite, very close to the Savoy ruler, who brought the factory almost to completion, replaced by his brother Alessandro Valperga. The church suffered significant damage from the bombings of 1943, the facade risked detachment and part of the roof was destroyed causing damage inside including one of the two doors inlaid by the famous cabinetmaker Pietro Piffetti.
