F	Francesco Soletti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Da Piazza Garibaldi si risale l'ampia via Calvi, sulla destra della quale risalta la facciata ottocentesca della chiesa di Santa Marta, ornata da fregi in terracotta: documentata nel 1582, è una costruzione a navata unica con cappella laterale, integrata nel tessuto edilizio circostante. Molto interessante, tra i frammenti lapidei murati alla base della facciata, è l'iscrizione funeraria che cita Lucius Minicius Exoratus, funzionario romano al tempo di Vespasiano, dal quale, secondo l'interpretazione più consueta, deriverebbe il toponimo latino Menaxium. From Piazza Garibaldi you go up the wide Via Calvi, on the right of which stands out the nineteenth-century facade of the church of Santa Marta, decorated with terracotta friezes: documented in 1582, it is a single-nave construction with a side chapel, integrated into the surrounding building fabric . Very interesting, among the stone fragments walled at the base of the facade, is the funerary inscription that quotes Lucius Minicius Exoratus, a Roman official at the time of Vespasiano, from which, according to the most usual interpretation, the Latin toponym Menaxium derives. Da osservare attentamente sono le lastre marmoree posto sulla facciata; una è la lapide funeraria di Lucio Minicio Exorato del I sec. d.C., trovata nel lago antistante le mura romane di Santa Maria Rezzonico e qui trasferite nel 1500 dall' umanista menaggino Francesco Calvi. Sopra, una chiave d’arco in pietra con la raffigurazione a bassorilievo del castello di Menaggio, del secolo XVI che è divenuta lo stemma comunale. All'ingresso della chiesa è collocata un'originale acquasantiera medioevale, e sull'altare, un crocifisso assia venerato. Sulle pareti pregevoli tele, tra cui una Natività ed una Flagellazione del 1700. The church of S. Marta is certainly an ancient building, even if the external features are from the nineteenth century. To be observed carefully are the marble slabs placed on the facade; one is the tombstone of Lucio Minicio Exorato from the 1st century. A.D., found in the lake in front of the Roman walls of Santa Maria Rezzonico and transferred here in 1500 by the humanist Francesco Calvi from Menaggino. Above, a stone arch key with the bas-relief depiction of the castle of Menaggio, from the 16th century which has become the municipal coat of arms. At the entrance to the church there is an original medieval font, and on the altar, a venerated Hessian crucifix. On the walls there are valuable paintings, including a Nativity and a Flagellation from 1700.
