★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesa “extra moenia” negli antichi archivi ecclesiastici di Trivento, perché sorta fuori dalle mura del primi nucleo di abitazioni. Il recente restauro ha messo in luce l’originario aspetto della chiesa (arte romanica) in pietra locale e malta, con il merito di farci oggi godere la vista di alcuni suoi aspetti, prima nascosti o poco evidenti. Nella parte in alto a destra del campanile “a vela” è apparsa una interessante formella che rappresenta un leone con coda attorcigliata, dalla cui bocca spunta la coda di una lucertola. Leone e lucertola sono entrambi simboli medievali, il primo di fortezza e l’altra di rinascita o resurrezione, ma fin ora di essi non si sapeva nulla. La chiesa di San Nicola sembra riprendere l’importanza di un tempo, quando, prima dell’inaugurazione di Santa Maria di Loreto (1535) era la parrocchia del paese e l’antica navata non era stata ancora sostituita da spazi irregolari per la riduzione dell’area retrostante (1688), né ridotta e né sparite le quattro colonne dell’altare che formavano un insieme architettonico di particolare valore artistico.  “Extra moenia” church in the ancient ecclesiastical archives of Trivento, because it was built outside the walls of the first group of houses. The recent restoration has brought to light the original appearance of the church (Romanesque art) in local stone and mortar, with the merit of making us now enjoy the sight of some of its aspects, previously hidden or not very evident. In the upper right part of the “sail” bell tower, an interesting tile has appeared representing a lion with a twisted tail, from whose mouth the tail of a lizard protrudes. Lion and lizard are both medieval symbols, the first of fortress and the other of rebirth or resurrection, but until now nothing was known about them. The church of San Nicola seems to resume the importance of the past, when, before the inauguration of Santa Maria di Loreto (1535) it was the parish of the town and the ancient nave had not yet been replaced by irregular spaces for the reduction of he rear area (1688), the four columns of the altar which formed an architectural ensemble of particular artistic value, neither reduced nor disappeared.
