Undoubtedly a church to visit with a four-star rating .. the stars cancel when the bells start playing their unwelcome concert, because it is a concert, a very loud sound I think beyond the allowed limit and very prolonged on average on 3 / 4 min depends on the time, and there is also a painful note that starts playing before seven in the morning which I don't think is a call to the faithful because the church is closed at that time ..... a word of advice, dim the time of the sound and intensity will gain the faithful in serenity. Sottomarina is the beachfront Lido of historic Chioggia, from which it originates and with which it blends its history. The Cathedral of Sottomarina is this decidedly grandiose church, in the purest neo-Palladian style, from the nineteenth century, which replaces the vast (but in the nineteenth century completely insufficient for the capacity of the faithful) historic Gothic and Renaissance church, of which important fragments in the courtyard behind the apse of the current Cathedral. The pre-existing Cathedral was a Gothic-Venetian structure, with large Renaissance insertions, with a basilica plan, that is, without a transept, but with three naves. It was located in a north-south direction with respect to today's Cathedral, which is perfectly oriented. Of the ancient building, the Venetian baroque bell tower remains perfectly intact and functional, with a belfry open on all 4 sides by pairs of single lancet windows. It has no cusp and is decidedly low compared to the new large nineteenth-century church to which it remains annexed. So in the penultimate century of the just passed second millennium after Christ the parishioners of Sottomarina decided to demolish the Old Cathedral and to raise an out-of-scale structure that had to somehow compete, at least in height, with the nearby Longhenian Cathedral of Chioggia, Diocesan Cathedral to which the parishes of Sottomarina refer. St. Martin of Tours, born in Pannonia, obliged to military life as the son of an officer of the Roman Imperial Army, as soon as the military laws allowed him, and then he was stationed in Gaul, detesting that life and all eager to consecrate himself exclusively at the Service of Christ, he obtained perpetual leave and, far from returning to his homeland, remained in the Gallic lands, becoming a monk, priest, founder of monasteries, Abbot and finally Bishop of Tours. He was Holy in Everything. Defender of the Catholic Faith from heresies and heretics, great preacher and shepherd of souls as Abbot and as Bishop, Man of Prayer and Assiduous Contemplation of Divine Realities, Man of Action for the Greater Glory of His Lord and the Supernatural Health of the Neighbor, Man of inexhaustible Christian Charity for All the Needy, Most Powerful Wonderworker in this earthly life and even more re-entered in the Eternal One. He died in Tours, his Episcopal See. One of the most loved and venerated saints. Model of a true Man of God according to the Heart of Jesus. His extraordinary Intercession with the Lord has obtained and obtains Amazing Miracles and Graces of All Kind. In Sottomarina they wanted him and they want him as their Patron and Protector. Here an important church dedicated to him was built, then replaced by an even larger one, the current Cathedral of Sottomarina. A building in the heart of the historic Sottomarina, with a single large rectangular nave, the third Church of the Diocese of Clodiense in size after the Diocesan Cathedral, that is the great Cathedral of Chioggia, and the neoclassical Cathedral of San Mauro Abate di Cavarzere. A must visit. And after Jesus the Eucharist, who has His House in the Cathedral of San Martino which is therefore the House of All, without distinction, let us pray and invoke the Great Saint of Tours. His Intercession is so Incredibly Powerful near the Heart of Jesus. A beautiful early twentieth century church. Interesting is the crucifix which does not show a dead but still alive Christ looking to the right Another particular is the ancient church of the eighteenth century which is located behind which is now used as a playground for children.
