Nice church from the outside but sadly I couldn't see the inside as it was closed.

Free to enter. Great spot if you are on a budget. Small quaint Catholic Church with some pretty amazing pieces inside. It is a nice stop if you want to take a short break and get out of the heat. The outside is not very impressive. Probably because it has been destroyed a few times. It is away from most of the tourist spots. On the far side of the alter there is a statue of saint Raphael encased in 4 marble columns. Take a quick look up towards the ceiling before you leave.

The Church of San Raffaele Arcangelo, also known as the Church of Angelo Raffaele or, in Venetian, Anzolo Rafael, is located in the sestiere Dorsoduro, close to San Basilio. It is located outside the tourist roads, and so it is in this part of the always calm. Nearby are student centers that bring a little life to the ambience. San Raffaele Arcangelo church is one of only two churches in Venice that are possible to walk all around. The church is beautiful, rich in frescoes and paintings and when we entered it they played the organ live. We were alone in the church and the atmosphere was magical. The church stands in one of the oldest areas of the city, one of the first to be permanently inhabited. According to tradition, it was one of the eight churches built by San Magno, the bishop of Oderzo, chose this place and set up the temple of the revelation of the same Archangel Raphael.The church develops on the Greek cross plan of the previous structure, with the facade facing the rio dell'Angelo Raffaele. However, the most used entrance is the lateral one, better integrated into the pedestrian traffic. The interior of the church is beautiful, a special energy is felt here. On the entrance portal is a sculpture by Sebastiano Mariani "The Angel Raffaele with Tobiolo" ( "L'Angelo Raffaele con Tobiolo" ). There are beautiful paintings of the parapet of the choir pedestal, depicting the "Stories of Tobiolo" ( "Storie di Tobiolo" ), attributed to Gianantonio Guardi. Other beautiful frescoes were made by Michelangelo Morlaiter. The imposing two-keyboard organ was built in 1749 by Gaetano Amigazzi and renovated in 1821 by the brothers Antonio and Agostino Callido, sons of the more famous master Gaetano. In the hands of a good master they sound divine.
