★ ★ ★ ★ ★ E pensare che quando, nel 1609, i frati Capuccini si stabilirono a Sestri Levante lo fecero nel cuore della città, in quello che è l'odierno complesso della chiesa di San Pietro in Vincoli. Poi, a seguito della progressiva urbanizzazione del centro, i frati cercarono una diversa collocazione che consentisse loro l'isolamento dalla popolazione. E la trovarono nella zona ad est della Baia del Silenzio, in posizione dominante. E come biasimarli? Avete provato affacciarvi dal sagrato della chiesa? Lo spettacolo che vi si presenta agli occhi è divinamente fantastico. Così fantastico che ci dimentichiamo cosa c'è alle nostre spalle: la bella chiesa in stile medioevale ad unica navata e con la caratteristica facciata in fasce bianche e nere.
Degni di nota al suo interno sono conservati una statua in legno dell'Immacolata del XVIII secolo sull'altare maggiore, un dipinto di Domenico Fiasella ritraente Il miracolo di Sant'Antonio da Padova e sempre dello stesso pittore la tela raffigurante San Felice da Cantalice che riceve dalla Vergine il Bambino Gesù. Durante il periodo natalizio ospita un bel presepe.
And to think that when, in 1609, the Capuchin friars settled in Sestri Levante, they did it in the heart of the city, in what is today the complex of the church of San Pietro in Vincoli. Then, following the progressive urbanization of the center, the friars sought a different location that allowed them isolation from the population. And they found it in the area east of the Bay of Silence, in a dominant position. And how can you blame them? Have you tried to look out of the church square? The spectacle presented to you is divinely fantastic. So fantastic that we forget what's behind us: the beautiful church in medieval style with a single nave and with the characteristic façade in black and white bands.
Worthy of note are a wooden statue of the 18th century Immaculate on the high altar, a painting by Domenico Fiasella depicting the miracle of St. Anthony of Padua and always of the same painter the painting of St. Felix of Cantalice which receives from the Virgin the Infant Jesus. During the Christmas period it hosts a beautiful crib.
