It is a lovely place! It is taken care of clean. I am sure that the municipality does a great job but without a doubt it is also thanks to the inhabitants who keep everything with great love. You breathe an atmosphere of other times .. you immerse yourself in a past time that becomes almost current. The medieval buildings ... the cathedral of San Lorenzo ... the museum ... the church of Santa Rosa ... the eyes are filled with beauty. There are places to eat well and for every budget..b & b..hotel all completely inserted in the historical context. Fascinating is the death square with its restaurants. Really a beautiful place.

A 1200 medieval district of Viterbo, accessible on foot from Piazza del Comune, leaving the car at the paid parking lots under the aforementioned square. Every time I go there I am enchanted. It is a beautiful, enchanting village .... there is the Papal Palace which was the residence of some Popes in the past. Famous is the manifestation of San Pellegrino in fiore at the end of April, the whole village becomes a rainbow of flowers and plants, a riot of colors .... have a nice trip ????

The historic center of Viterbo is a very pleasant place to stroll. It is located on a hill and offers various viewpoints including the Papal Palace. The availability of tuff used in many buildings makes the views characteristic. Very quiet, not busy, a great "country".

The old town was still surrounded by walls and towers and we drove through one of the gates to get to the parking area. After that the navigation went down hill a little as the high buildings and narrow streets played havoc with Google so we meandered around. That wasn't really a bad thing as the medieval town centre wasn't large and we saw some lovely little squares and buildings although there were also a huge number of beautiful old buildings that were just boarded up and decaying. Like a lot of the other towns in this area that we've visited over the years, towers were very much a mark of status. Obviously phallocentric Italian nobility felt the need to build bigger ;) There are 40 towers in the town now, down from about 200 in the 18th century. Each square seemed to have a decorated fountain too which would have been lovely to sit and listen to in nice weather. Lots of the houses had planters outside with succulents in - the old town seemed to be slowly dying though despite a rear action by some houseproud residents. Very few shops were open, I doubt we saw 15 people in three hours and it just didn't seem lived in.

We’ve been to Viterbo with the family to celebrate Easter and get away from the buzz of Rome! The ancient Papal city is a little jen surrounded by Thermal baths and fab gardens! ( Bomarzo, villa lante la Bagnaia, castello Ruspoli) The Tuscia region is an incredible journey full of things to do ! We stayed at Borgo La Ferriera This " Borgo" is located in the heart of Tuscia, close to Viterbo and Rome it's a wonderful ancient hamlet with 5 Villas entirely restored preserving the autenticity of the place The landscape is stunningly beautiful : a wonderful, charming and magical place, ideal to discover the magnificent medieval villages of Orvieto, Celleno (the ghost village), Bolsena and Bagnoregio (the city suspended between the clouds) Our Villas was for 4 people but there are larger Villas that share the immense propretly guaranteeing privacy to all guests There is also a magnificent pool, a multi-purpose sports field to practice football / tennis / basketball, a large flat area that can also be used for yoga / pilates ... everything released by a lush forest crossed by the Rio Grande that ends in a spectacular waterfall. Our Villa was well equipped with kitchen and had an outdoor patio where we sit and enjoy our Easter Brunch . Can't wait to go back next year! ??
