Risale al dodicesimo secolo ed in origine le sue mura erano bagnate dal torrente Talvera ( ora ad una ventina di metri).
Nella sua lunga storia, non è mai stato espugnato.
Nel sedicesimo dimorava tra le sue mura l'ultimo Voivoda di Valacchia, Petru Schiopul, pronipote di Vlad l'impalatore, il personaggio che ha ispirato la storia di Dracula.
Oggi è abitato da privati e non è visitabile.
