High up at 346 m. the imposing Art Nouveau palace towers over Utveggio and watches over Palermo. It can be recognized from afar as a striking building on the promontory of the Pellegrino.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In March 1933 the neo gothic style "Grand Hotel Utveggio" Castle stood up on Primo Pizzo mountain (south side of Mount Pellegrino) at last totally ready to welcome his Vip customers. Unluckily his "father" Michele Utveggio missed the opening ceremony.
Probably his early death made hard the business. Its location was uneasy to reach, and than WW2 started so it went bad. In the time it was used for a range of different activities but nowadays is waiting for a new venture.
So these days is only an odd pinkish presence (its original colour was dark red brick), along a metallic trees wood grown on Mount Pellegrino.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The scandalous thing is that such a spectacular location is wasted. A restaurant? Multimedia museum? Observatory? Bus loads of people would love the breathtaking views over the city - by day and by night… Instead: inaccessible. Shame.
