Voluto dall'imprenditore cav. Michele Ulveggio nel 1927, fu progettato da G. B. Santangelo in stile medioevaleggiante, su un pianoro del monte Pellegrino in una splendida posizione panoramica a 280m s.l.m., per essere adibito ad albergo.
Essendo il monte Pellegrino territorio demaniale è tra le pochissime costruzioni sorte sullo stesso.
Ultimato nel 1931 non riuscì mai a funzionare come albergo.
Durante la guerra venne occupato per la sua posizione strategica. In seguito cadde per lungo tempo in stato di abbandono, fin quando non venne acquistato dalla Regione Siciliana, ed è stato restaurato.
Ha ospitato il Ce.Ri.S.Di. (Centro Ricerche e Studi Direzionali).
Al castello si può accedere da due strade:
una a sud realizzata nel 1924 e l'altra a nord sul fronte verso Mondello realizzata negli anni '60.
Esiste anche una strada percorribile a piedi realizzata dal Senato palermitano fra il 1674 e il 1725.
Utveggio Castle
Wanted by the entrepreneur cav. Michele Ulveggio in 1927, was designed by G. B. Santangelo in a medieval style, on a plateau of Mount Pellegrino in a splendid panoramic position at 280m a.s.l., to be used as a hotel.
Being Mount Pellegrino, it is one of the very few buildings built on it.
Completed in 1931 it never managed to function as a hotel.
During the war it was occupied for its strategic position. Later it fell for a long time in a state of neglect, until it was purchased by the Sicilian Region, and has been restored.
It hosted the Ce.Ri.S.Di. (Research and Management Studies Center).
The castle can be accessed from two roads:
one to the south built in 1924 and the other to the north on the front towards Mondello built in the 60s.
There is also a walkable road built by the Palermitan Senate between 1674 and 1725.
