Il nucleo originario del castello del Boccale è rappresentato da una torre d'avvistamento (nota anche come torre del Maroccone o del Diavolo), costruita per volontà dei Medici nel XVI secolo, forse sui resti di una struttura preesistente realizzata dalla Repubblica Pisa in epoca mediovale. Vi soggiornava il castellano e qualche soldato, ma le dimensioni erano modeste, tanto che non vi era spazio per l'artiglieria. Oggi è molto visitata la zona dai turisti sia per il bellissimo mare che per stupenda vista, il castello è metà anche di tantissimi fotografi per questa sua particolarità. The Boccalr castle is a large manor that rises in Livorno, south of the Antignano district, along the coastal road to Quercianella in the stretch of coast called "Boccale" or "Cala dei Pirati". The original nucleus of the Boccale castle is represented by a watchtower (also known as the Maroccone or Devil's tower), built by the Medici in the sixteenth century, perhaps on the remains of a pre-existing structure built by the Pisa Republic in the Middle Ages . The castellan and a few soldiers stayed there, but the dimensions were modest, so much so that there was no room for artillery. Today the area is very visited by tourists both for the beautiful sea and for the stupendous view, the castle is also half of many photographers for this peculiarity.

Bellissimo quando tira vento di Libeccio o di Scirocco per ammirare le onde e la risacca. Il castello sullo sfondo è un ottimo colpo d'occhio per una fotografia cartolina, non per niente è spesso occupato da fotografi con attrezzature di ogni tipo. Ne vale assolutamente la pena e uno stop, se si è in zona, è assolutamente consigliato. Per i più coraggiosi, è pure un ottimo punto per la astro fotografia notturna. The place is very impressive.
