Little gem in the heart of the beautiful Todi. Highly recommended to everyone for the beautiful life story it tells, not just for contemporary art lovers. Thanks to the explanations and the availability of the museum operator Vilma, the visit was even more interesting, a real discovery!

Bellissima vista!
The house is very interesting and suggestive, almost entirely left in the state in which the couple gave it to the municipality (clothes, bathroom, kitchen). The thing that fascinated me most are the puzzles and games that hide among those colors. Beautiful view!

A presto.
.... a fantastic story, a fable written and painted by two people whom fate brought together, upsetting the life of one and the life of the other .... the only common denominator is the love that they continue to exchange after one life together. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the lady who guided us yesterday 19/02/2022 in the painted house but we can only thank her with all our affection for letting us know this wonderful story. I am delighted for all the sacrifices that the municipality of Todi makes to keep this house active and for the endurance in the cold that the Lady guide undergoes just to give light to the colors of this house. Soon.

This small nineteenth-century house, on three levels, was bought in 1975 by the internationally renowned Irish artist Brian O’Doherty (also known as Patrick Ireland) and his wife, university professor and art critic Barbara Novak. In 1977 Brian began painting the walls of the house, transforming it into a work of art in the making. The rooms were decorated by the artist using soft and bright colors, thus telling us about his mood. The colors and geometric shapes on the walls frame the ancient Celtic alphabet OGHAM, extinct for more than 1200 years. The Painted House, defined by the O’Doherty as their place of the heart, in 2018 becomes a museum space usable by visitors, capable of attracting not only contemporary art lovers but also the most curious and children. Entrance ticket € 2. Unfortunately not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Assolutamente imperdibile e super consigliata.
The Painted House is located in Todi, in an alley behind the Annunziata Cathedral. It is a surreal, enchanted, fairytale location. The house, of nineteenth-century origin, was purchased in 1975 by the Irish artist O'Doherty and his wife Barbara, who chose it as a holiday residence. From that year, the man began to paint the walls continuously. The two - stopped by the Coronavirus pandemic - have not returned to Todi since 2019 and the house has now become a museum, which nevertheless preserves memories of the owners' daily life, waiting for their return to Umbria. Absolutely unmissable and super recommended.

The "Painted House" is a space in continuous transformation, where the "white cube" ("white cube") is an opportunity to range in art and also in architectural dictates, providing new perspectives, colors and giving through the painting of the walls new art. The first floor consists of a kitchen and dining room and evokes an Ogham temple: three keywords above the hall entrance (One, Here, Now) and represent O'Doherty's artistic language and are written together with the transcription of the code ancient. The other walls have very large paintings composed of lines, geometries, colors and vowels are also represented. An important and significant peculiarity is the "Dictionary of the Ego": it is a list of all the possibilities that the artist has experimented with to reproduce both the number 5 and the letter I ("I"). The viewer manages to feel an integral part of the work Casa. The upper floor is made up of wall paintings with threads, studied and useful in seeking the ideal perspective to be able to view the three-dimensionality of the work.
