Questa operazione ha consentito la creazione di grandissime opere d’arte, privandoci nel contempo, di poterne ammirare altre. Questo campanile, già ottimamente descritto in altri contributi, mette in mostra, poiché di materiale diverso, tanti pezzi appartenuti al tempio che sorgeva nello stesso suo spazio. Al tempo, reperti di assoluto valore, artistico, culturale, venivano usati come semplici laterizi, funzionali all’edificazione. Possiamo solo immaginare, quanti “pezzi” sono andati perduti all’interno di mura o sistemati a vista nel verso opposto a quello precedentemente scalpellato. Il campanile realizzato è comunque molto bello anche in virtù degli inserti presenti. Da vedere. Perché allora, tenerlo in quelle condizioni?imbrattato da vandali e per nulla valorizzato. È un vero peccato! Risalente all'epoca romanica, quest'opera risale al XI secolo e conserva alla base numerosi elementi architettonici e iscrizioni di epoca romana. La costruzione ritilizza materiali ripresi dagli antichi edifici romani del centro storico secondo una tradizione molto diffusa all'epoca. Alla base del campanile si trovano pezzi di colonne, capitelli e steli votive. Purtroppo, come molti monumenti a Napoli ma in Italia in generale, un'opera unica al mondo non è per nulla ben tenuta e preservata (versa in uno stato di abbandono totale). Questo bellissimo campanile si trova di fianco alla Cappella dei Pontano (conosciuta anche come Cappella dei Cappuccio perché era la sede della Arciconfraternita del “SS. Rosario del Bambino alla Pietrasanta” detta anche “Congrega del Sacramento o del Cappuccio) ed alla monumentale Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta.
