β β β β β Very cool interactive underground museum. There are 3D goggles showing what the place used to look like, and a few other exhibits.

β β β β β I love this Basilica, that after an excellent renovation years ago, now hosts art exhibitions one after the other. Now Andy Warhol is up and the combination of the classical location provided by the church, and Warhol's pop art is really intriguing .... definitely a place to see, without missing the two minor churches Pontano and Del Cristo Redentore just nearby!

β β β β β Andy Warholβs exhibited work in Basilica Della Pietrasanta in Naples certainly has to be seen and it is a must for every art lover and anyone interested in modern art. It is very well organized and designed to expose Andy Warholβs love for colours. Modern art accompanied by church tabernacle, altars and ecclesiastical art. Impressing!
The exhibition finds its place in a very beautiful basilica with characteristic ancient floors . It is also possible to visit the basilicaβs underground and listen to interesting stories told with passion by guides. It is possible to go 40 meters down the stairs and learn the history of the underground tunnels and their important role during the WW. Do you want to know more?

β β β β β The church of Santa Maria Maggiore della Pietrasanta is a Roman Catholic religious edifice located on Via Tribunali
Tradition holds the church was erected in 533 atop the ruins of a Temple of Diana; construction was instigated by the Bishop Pomponio of Naples, a relative of Pope John II. A church at the site, dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore, was consecrated in 535.It was soon titled a minor basilica church.
By 1654, the old church was threatening collapse, and reconstruction was pursued under the designs of Cosimo Fanzago, which led to the domed church with a Greek cross layout we see today. Work was soon interrupted due to lack of funds. There is evidence of a paleochristian basilica in the crypt, and the finding of an old stone carved with a cross gave the church part of its name. The bell tower was constructed in the 11th century.
To the left of the entrance and obscuring the left lower facade, is in part, the Renaissance chapel: Capella Pontano, erected in 1492 by Giovanni Pontano, the Secretary to Ferdinand I of Aragon. To the right of the church and some meters distant is the medieval bell tower.

β β β β β Just under old church. Nothing exciting about the church itself, but we had the chance to see a Marc Chagall exhibition so it was really nice.
