The Basilica of Santa Maria Novella might not be as well known as her bigger sister in the center of the city, but it’s just as beautiful in its own right. While you should definitely take a tour if you have the time (the Trinity by Masaccio is amazing), try to go at night as well once the crowd dies down. Sit in the garden on a bench and enjoy the beauty of this church. For American tourists, the CDC vaccination paper is accepted anywhere the EU Green Pass is accepted. So don’t worry, they’ll allow you to enter as well. Enjoy!

The basilica is across the street from the Florence train station. The frescoes inside are truly amazing. There is also a quiet and tranquil cloister area.

Really nice to see. I think it’s good to take an Audioguide or something else to see everything.

Santa Maria Novella is a church in Florence, Italy, situated opposite, and lending its name to, the city's main railway station. Chronologically, it is the first great basilica in Florence, and is the city's principal Dominican church. The church, the adjoining cloister, and chapter house contain a multiplicity of art treasures and funerary monuments. Especially famous are frescoes by masters of Gothic and early Renaissance. They were financed by the most important Florentine families, who ensured themselves funerary chapels on consecrated ground.

Not a must. But if you have time you can visit this church as it is very close to the train station. You need to buy a ticket to enter and it closes at 5 pm. The cloisters are really nice and peaceful to visit and it has some of the oldest frescoes of the old testament.

This church has a really cool facade that looks 2D when the lights are shined on the front. There is a beautiful open air park outside which is great for walking and enjoying the sun. We were in Florence on 01/01 so it was closed but still beautiful!

So I debated visiting here on my way to the train station and decided to give it a shot. The inside of the church is definitely beautiful, but it’s a quick walk through. Then you come to the outside grounds of the church and there is tons of beautiful spaces. Also you will find some amazing frescos. An amazing chapel and a small museum with a few reliquaries. I think all that was well worth the €7.50 entree fee
