Great rental experience. Fast and contract was issued exactly as per the booking. I was politely asked if I wanted any extras (petrol tank and insurance) which I declined and I didn't feel any pressure to buy these. I was given a brand new car in excellent shape and was in and out in less than ten minutes. Very positively surprised with the experience!

I arrived at 11:55 for my 12pm booking and waited until 1:30 only to be told there were no cars available until 3pm and to come back then. (There were 4 other groups who were told the same). I came back at 3 and had to wait until 4pm, only to be told that the credit card provided was β€œunauthorised”. We then tried a debit card but was told that it β€œdidn’t work”. Both of these cards work and are used regularly. I was left with no choice but to leave the office. I then walked up the road and booked a car on the spot using the same card with Hertz no problem. Moral of the story, book with Hertz instead!

Avis is my preferred car rental company anywhere in Europe, so it was also an obvious choice for my 10-day vacation in Sicily. In contrast to several disappointing reviews for the Palermo (city and airport) offices (that, I have to admit, made me slightly worried), I experienced the usual good and no-fuss Avis service from the via Crispi office. We got a bigger car than originally booked and additional driver at no extra costs. The pickup and drop-off were efficient. My only complaint is that for whatever reason I could not get in touch with the rental office by phone the day before the drop-off (to get an answer to a minor question). Apart from that, I continue being a satisfied Avis customer.

Don't use Avis from the Palermo airport, just don't. We arrived, after having booked our car a couple of months back, to find only one staff member at the Avis desk and subsequently had to wait almost an hour before getting the necessary info + keys. Then, when arriving at the desk, the staff member starts asking us all kinds of questions which were already made clear in our booking (what car, price, how many drivers...). Our travel organization had made sure that we would be able to have a second driver, free of charge. No, when in Palermo, we had to pay €9/day/extra driver so we didn't take that option. We ordered a Peugeot 2008 or similar. Because they didn't have any cars available at the time, they initially told us to wait. Three minutes later they tell us they do have a car: a Dacia Stepway. Evidently, what volume is concerned it was a similar car. Quality-wise... not so much. AC was terrible, comfort not as expected, yet we did pay around €145/day for this car. A total rip-off, to be quite honest. We're already pretty scared about the deposit we paid for and when or if we will get it back... We definitely do not recommend Avis when in Italy. Just avoid this company.

Typical chaos. Regardless what time is your confirmed reservation you need to take a number and queue. You have self service to check in (unresponsive to touch) even when done someone will call you for all your personal details again keeping you on the phone for 15mins. Then you are told to go up to counter to get the key; again told you need to wait for your number. No care about social distancing. Next time use another more organized rental company.

We arrived at the avis store (everything already paid) and instead of checking in with the avis stuff we had to do a phone call with a person who tries to force us to an insurance. After a long discussion the insurance still appeared on our bill (200 euros). After bringing back the car, the car got checked for every little scretch on it and they wanted to charge us for every single scretch. So luckily i did some photos during the Pick up, because i did not damage the car. It seemed like a System to me and i guess they do it often here. So if you hire a car here (and i would highly recommend to NOT do it) make some photos guys. They try to rip you.

Abusive Charges - 234 euros for Mirror Scratch I have rented a car in Avis (Palermo) through Auto Europe, for 2 days a)- At the time of the car collection, the car was observed by a Avis employee, and no scratches were highlighted. b)- At the return date, I was confronted with a scratch on the front mirror (driver’s side – File IMG 3815). c)– I’m pretty sure I didn’t do this actively (I know I can be responsible for passive damages) d)– I have cleaned the scratch for a bit (just with my hands), and the mark seems to have almost disappeared (File – IMG 3816). e)– There was no sensibility/flexibility from the employee f)– I have disagreed with the employee, that this scratch was under my responsibility. g)– Even disagreeing with the employee, I was asked to sign a document (written in Italian), agreeing with a 234.24 EUR bill for the repair of the front mirror.

The best customer experience I have ever had with a car rental company. Vita the front desk coordinator was extremely helpful and kind, transparent and spot on English skills, we just felt welcome. We really recommend using this specific agency and office for your holiday rental! 10/10
