★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I were lucky enough to wander into this amazing establishment back in 2011. Everything was closed for lunch, including this restaurant, but the generous host still prepared us a platter of delicious local cured meats, cheeses, olives and rustic bread, whilst he and his family also sat at a nearby table having their own lunch. Everything in there was so authentic and not only was the owner keen to tell us about the locally produced food, but also about the amazing Chianti wines for which he then opened several bottles for us to sample... delicious! It was one of those amazing experiences that we will never forget!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice, local food in a quaint place - BUT, €8 COPERTO /PERSON - really??!! Be careful - the Owner takes advantage of TOURISTS!
We ate here on one of our first stops in Tuscany. The place has a lot of personality - it’s filled with bottles of wine and has a wall posted with pictures of (famous?) people who have visited the restaurant. The Owner greeted us first hesitantly - but then asked us where we were from and chatted a bit. We were offered a table - and a newly stapled menu (where the Coperto was NOT listed, as it should be!)
We ordered a Bolognese for my son - and a few local platters of Tuscan meats, cheeses and bruschetta - as well as a few glasses or the house Chianti. The food was nicely presented on wood tablets - and tasted GREAT! We were also brought a bag of bread and homemade Focaccia.
The problem was when the bill came - the Owner charged us €8 / PER PERSON FOR COPERTO! That amount made up HALF of the bill! So, a nice, reasonable „snack“ quickly got expensive.
We didn‘t say anything then, although we thought the charge for the coperto was a bit extreme. In these Corona times, we were aware that restaurants have higher costs. So, maybe he needed the money more than we do. Although, I would think that restaurants would be GRATEFUL for the Tourists that do come at this time.
After paying ONLY €1-2 Coperto per Person at our hotel AND in Siena, we realised how much the Owner had ripped us off. This experience obviously leaves us - as Tourists - with a bad taste in our mouths.
So, go here for the food and the ambiance - BUT, make sure you ask HOW MUCH the Coperto charge will be BEFORE you sit down.
