Sopra ci sono opere de Della Robbia Merita una visita senz'altro. Wonderful crypt contains the oldest shrine in Europe equal to that of Jerusalem. Above there are works by Della Robbia. Definitely worth a visit.

La facciata e la parte superiore non mi hanno colpito particolarmente, ma la parte sotto vale assolutamente la visita se si passa da queste parti. Remember to bring € 1 to turn on the lights (the switch is on the left). The facade and the upper part did not particularly impress me, but the lower part is absolutely worth the visit if you pass through these parts.

Scesi alcuni gradini ed entratovi, il vago chiarore che vi penetra fa appena percepire i contorni, qua e là, di imponenti presenze; all'accensione (a pagamento) di un moderno e sapiente impianto d'illuminazione (discreto, ma efficace), il tutto si disvela per essere un vasto spazio ritmato da numerose colonne e pilastri tozzi, sormontati da bellissimi capitelli romanici, sorreggenti basse volte a crociera. Ma è la ieraticità che ancora oggi vi si respira, a stupire il visitatore; con quella sorta di scommessa ambiziosa, quella di riuscire a trasporvi la Gerusalemme celeste, rappresentata dal sacello riproducente il santo sepolcro; ulteriore segno di quanto fossero capaci, i mastri costruttori di allora, a trasmettere nelle loro opere una fede profondamente sentita The crypt is the most evocative and fascinating place. La facciata è mal conservata (avrebbe bisogno di qualche opera di restauro) e l'interno è poco curato. È vero, parliamo di una chiesa antica, risalente ai tempi dell'inizio della via Francigena, però andrebbe curata di più, visto anche la sua importanza nel percorso. Attracted by guides and reviews, I went to visit this cathedral. The façade is poorly preserved (it needs some restoration work) and the interior is poorly maintained. It is true, we are talking about an ancient church, dating back to the times of the beginning of the Via Francigena, but it should be cared for more, also considering its importance in the path.
