 A beautiful abbey, with the ruins of the conventual part and the closed church. From above it enjoys a divine position, with the snow-capped mountains and the bright sun.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Afin d'accéder à cette abbaye un parking se trouve en face d'un petit restaurant. Pour être passé devant des dizaines de fois sans la voir, je trouve vraiment dommage que l'endroit soit très peu indiqué. Mais une fois sur place l'endroit est vraiment magnifique et surtout très très bien entretenu. Il se dégage de ces lieux une sensation de paix et de sérénité pour ceux qui veulent bien prendre le temps d'observer cette abbaye du septième siècle.
In order to access this abbey, a car park is located in front of a small restaurant. Having walked past it dozens of times without seeing it, I find it really unfortunate that the place is hardly indicated. But once there the place is really beautiful and above all very very well maintained. These places give off a feeling of peace and serenity for those who want to take the time to observe this seventh century abbey.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tengo a precisare che stó mettendo cinque stelle perché la chiesa le merita tutte. Per tutto il resto metterei una stella. La struttura è completamente dimenticata e in stato di abbandono. Per vederla bisogna andare a cercare chi possiede le chiavi. Una cosa assurda!!!
Un grande peccato dovrebbe essere seguita valorizzata. Ma è sempre peggio
I want to clarify that I am putting five stars because the church deserves them all. For everything else I would put a star. The structure is completely forgotten and in a state of neglect. To see it you have to go and find whoever has the keys. An absurd thing !!!
A great pity should be followed valued. But it's getting worse

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa di San Giovanni ad Insulam, le cui origini risalgono al tempo del Romani, fu eretta sui ruderi di un tempio dedicato a Marte, a circa due chilometri e mezzo a valle di Isola del Gran Sasso, sui terreni forse appartenenti un tempo al monastero benedettino di San Vincenzo al Volturno.
I ruderi che ancora si notano alla destra della chiesa sono certamente i resti dell'antico monastero.
The church of San Giovanni ad Insulam, whose origins date back to Roman times, was erected on the ruins of a temple dedicated to Mars, about two and a half kilometers downstream of Isola del Gran Sasso, on land that perhaps once belonged to the monastery Benedictine of San Vincenzo al Volturno.
The ruins that can still be seen to the right of the church are certainly the remains of the ancient monastery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bella visita, grazie ai volontari, di cui potete trovare i recapiti al bar che sorge a fianco della chiesa. L'Abbazia è in via di restauro, dopo il siama de l'Aquila, ma mostra comunque alcuni capitelli scolpiti molto interessanti e l'abside centrale affrescata.
Nice visit, thanks to the volunteers, whose contact details can be found at the bar next to the church. The Abbey is being restored, after the siama de l'Aquila, but still shows some very interesting sculpted capitals and the central apse frescoed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bellissima abbazia dallo stile Romanico. Sorge su un piccolo colle a fianco del fiume Mavone. Si può visitare chiedendo la chiave alla trattoria accanto. Purtroppo il terremoto ha fatto internamente grandi disastri.
Beautiful Romanesque abbey. It stands on a small hill next to the Mavone river. You can visit it by asking for the key at the restaurant next door. Unfortunately, the earthquake caused great disasters internally.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ho assistito ad un concerto tenuto all’esterno della chiesa per il Festival delle Abbazie. Il luogo è di grande suggestione, prossimo al fiume Mavone e con la vista del Gran Sasso. Magnifico sito. Merita la visita.
I attended a concert held outside the church for the Abbeys Festival. The place is very suggestive, close to the Mavone river and with the view of the Gran Sasso. Magnificent site. Worth the visit.
