★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well what can I say, I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt but the owner was just extremely rude both times I was here.
I ordered food and tried to pay by card, their machine didn’t work so the owner told me to “pay later.” I stood there waiting for food. Another customer came in, ordered and paid. Then the owner went outside to do other things while I waited. Finally, the staff came and gave me the food. I said thank you, and the staff said "ciao" and I left. Since the staff never asked me to pay either, I assumed the owner meant I’d go back to the store and pay the next day. I walked out of the restaurant, saw the owner sitting outside of the restaurant, so I nodded at him, to which he nodded back. I walked a whole block when I heard someone yelling after me. “Excuse me did you pay?!?!” It was the owner.
I immediately went back to the store with him and tried to clear up the misunderstanding and said cheerfully, “ I thought you wanted me to pay next time!” He could've replied in so many other ways, but his reply was a cold, rude, “LATER, NOT next time.”
1. It’s not my job to hassle you for me to pay you if YOU are the one with payment system issues and you give me no clear instructions afterwards.
2. The meaning of the owner's "later" was not clear. In both English and Chinese (which the owner speaks), "later" can mean next time, next day, depending on context. I've certainly paid other shops "the next time" I saw them, or the next day. The owner's reaction made it seem like that was an impossible thing.
3. The owner could've made sure I paid after the customer behind me paid.
4. The owner could've stayed at the cashier to make sure that when I got the food, I could pay.
5. The owner could've directed for his staff to ask me to pay if you need to go do other things.
6. Even if the owner felt he needed me to pay immediately and needed to chase me down the street, he could've handled it in a less dramatic and rude manner, especially his response.
There were so many points in time that the owner could've handled this in a better manner (above), instead he simply wasn't running his restaurant diligently enough and he faults his customers for his poor management. I certainly don’t enjoy being chased down the street when you or your staff could’ve just handled this better.
