Volterra a jewel not to be missed! It still shows the atmosphere of a medieval village enclosed within the walls and developed around the nucleus of Piazza dei Priori on which the unmistakable silhouette of Palazzo dei Priori stands out. If the classic examples of medieval civil architecture of the tower houses are found near the square, the religious buildings overlook the square: the Cathedral, the Baptistery.
Volterra, "city of wind and stone", is famous for the working of alabaster stone, extracted from the quarries of Castellina Marittima. A white stone which due to its particular softness is more suitable than marble for reproducing motifs or ornamental details on a reduced scale.

It is the most charming city that we visit in La Senda Toscana. Its cobbled streets, its buildings, its well-preserved Roman theater make you go back to times gone by. Parking is impossible so the ideal is to park in the municipal parking lot that is very well located.

Superb town perched on the hill. Very exposed to the winds, it preserves the ancient casino of medieval villages in its winding streets that open into unexpected squares. It is interesting to see the faunal alabaster working of the few craftsmen still present in the city. The archaeological area of the Roman theater is remarkable. Not to be missed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must visit for Twilight fans! Parking in a van or station wagon is a nightmare. Stunning views of the countryside and the sea in the distance. A beautiful medieval village that is somewhat ruined by the vast number of touristic restaurants. Still a must go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very crowded place during Holy Week. Parking is a disaster but the place was worth it! Spend money eating on some restaurants and it’s even worth it
