Villa Demidoff built in 1822 had been almost destroyed after the world war until the recent renovation which today returns it to Florence.

Abbandonata da tempo ora possiamo apprezzare solo esternamente la bellezza di un tempo...... e pensare che fino a pochi anni fa in alcuni locali finemente affrescati c'erano un Saldatore e una Carrozzeria..... Wonderful renovation of what remains of Villa Demidoff now Villa San Donato. Abandoned for some time now we can only appreciate externally the beauty of the past ...... and to think that until a few years ago in some finely frescoed rooms there was a Welder and a Bodywork .....

Mio zio, dirigente alla Tim, sta alloggiando in questa struttura. Spesso sono andato a trovarlo e devo dire che la alloggio è davvero meraviglioso e moderno, e davvero ben tenuto. A luxury residential complex for rent, used mainly by managers of major companies! My uncle, a manager at Tim, is staying at this facility. I often went to see him and I must say that the accommodation is really wonderful and modern, and really well maintained.

Poteva essere un capolavoro e un vanto per Firenze, ma prima e l'abbandono da parte della famiglia Demidoff, Paolo in particolare, poi il deperimento che ne è conseguito e la guerra, poi la lottizzazione selvaggia del parco senza un minimo di controllo da parte della Soprintendenza, hanno distrutto tutto. Meglio radere al suolo anche quel poco che rimaneva della villa e mantenerne solo il ricordo, piuttosto che farne un residence in una periferia voluta e nata brutta. Pensate se lottizzassero Boboli e trasformassero in residence palazzo Pitti. Leggete la storia nel libro di Gino Chelazzi "Il principato dei Demidoff" . I am discouraged to see such a mess. It could have been a masterpiece and a source of pride for Florence, but first and the abandonment by the Demidoff family, Paolo in particular, then the resulting deterioration and the war, then the wild subdivision of the park without a minimum of control by of the Superintendency, they destroyed everything. Better to raze even what little remained of the villa and keep only the memory, rather than making it a residence in a desired and ugly suburb. Imagine if they subdivided Boboli and transformed Palazzo Pitti into a residence. Read the story in Gino Chelazzi's book "Il principato dei Demidoff".
