Villa Pliniana

A destra del portale della chiesa di Torno, un cartello invita ad entrare in un antro e poi a percorrere un esile sentiero che conduce alla villa Pliniana. Ho percorso questo sentiero, sopra il lago, per una ventina di minuti. Si trovano altre scritte che invitano a proseguire quella strada, indicando sempre la destinazione nella fantomatica villa. Alla fine ci si imbatte in un cancello chiuso sprangato. Il sentiero finisce qui. Della villa neanche l'ombra; non la si vede neanche col binocolo. Forse sull'indicazione vicino alla chiesa ci dovrebbe essere scritto: "ad un cancello chiuso".

Approfittando delle aperture speciali, con visita guidata, bisogna andare a visitare questa storica villa tornasca.

"Sopra Como otto miglia è la Pliniana, la quale crescie e decrescie ogni sei ore, e'l suo cresciere fa acqua per due mulina..." Leonardo da Vinci (codice atlantico) Bianca Maria Sforza andando in sposa all'imperatore, transitò sul Lario a bordo di una "nave" costruita e adornata per l'occasione dai tornaschi. Del seguito ducale faceva parte anche Leonardo, il quale chiese di fermarsi ad osservare la famosa fonte, studiata secoli prima da Plinio il Vecchio e da Plinio il Giovane.

Wonderful bike tour

We had the unfortunate experience of staying at this "villa" for a dear friends wedding, and I cannot begin to explain how terrible it was. At first we arrived to a room that was a a single 500 sq room in a shared building and nothing like a "villa" that we excepted for a prepayment of over $6000 USD. The ground floor room was on the service road to and from the building. We shrugged and figured to make the best of it regardless. When we started to get ready for the evening, we come to find out the towels smelled of mold and there was no upright shower or curtain but a bath tub and hose. When we asked for new towels, of course none arrived. Then while preparing for the evening, in the middle of showering in the bath tub, we come to find out that our building had run out of water !!! Apparently this happens quite often, on the island so one would assume "experienced" staff would have dealt with this before. NOPE ! The facility had no back up in place. When we raised our concerns with the desk, the manager shrugged and said that "this happens, and its not my problem." We were forced to move out of the room and stay at another hotel. It was clear that this was an operation run by amateurs to the hospitality industry not able to handle a large event. If you are planning an event at this location, I cannot warn you enough to BEWARE and book at your OWN risk.

A stunning location, literally a dream place. Everyone should visit it at least once in life
