m	marco tomasino on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La bella facciata neoclassica non lascia immaginare quanto sia antico il Duomo di sant'Eusebio. Nei secoli sono avvenuti numerosi interventi che hanno sicuramente snaturato le sue antiche geometrie. La possente torre campanaria in laterizio ci fa supporre che l'antica basilica dovesse avere una altrettanto imponente dimensione. Mi fa tenerezza pensare al povero Carlo II il Buono (III per alcuni), padre di Emanuele Filiberto, venuto a morire a Vercelli per sfuggire alle grinfie di Francesco I. Ora è qui sepolto. Ma il pezzo forte di questa basilica è il crocifisso appeso sopra l'altare. In realtà l'originale è conservato nel museo del Duomo, ma la riproduzione fedele di questo Cristo triumphans rende bene l'idea di quanto dovesse essere ricca la committenza per un'opera così importante. Ne consiglio la visita ed invito a leggere le varie locandine che aiutano a comprendere l'importanza di questo luogo. The beautiful neoclassical façade does not let you imagine how ancient the Cathedral of Sant'Eusebio is. Over the centuries there have been numerous interventions that have certainly distorted its ancient geometries. The mighty brick bell tower makes us suppose that the ancient basilica must have had an equally impressive size. It makes me tenderness to think of poor Charles II the Good (III for some), father of Emanuele Filiberto, who came to die in Vercelli to escape the clutches of Francesco I. Now he is buried here. But the highlight of this basilica is the crucifix hanging above the altar. In reality the original is kept in the museum of the Cathedral, but the faithful reproduction of this Christ triumphans gives a good idea of how rich the client must have been for such an important work. I recommend a visit and I invite you to read the various posters that help to understand the importance of this place.

S	Stefano Masnaghetti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Duomo, così come lo vediamo oggi, è il risultato di radicali ricostruzioni della vecchia basilica paleocristiana (V-VI Secolo), caratterizzata da cinque navate e quattro file di colonne, a ricalcare la struttura di quel che allora era la basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano. Già mutata in senso romanico nel medioevo, di quel periodo rimane il massiccio campanile del XII Secolo. Nella seconda metà del Cinquecento fu Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527 - 1596) a ricostruire il coro e la metà della chiesa posta ad oriente, mentre nel Settecento un altro grande architetto, Benedetto Alfieri (1699 - 1767), realizzò i progetti per il pronao e la facciata, in cui sono già visibili tratti marcatamente neoclassici. Spiace per la perdita della chiesa primitiva, tuttavia il Sant'Eusebio attuale è sicuramente di notevole impatto scenico. The Cathedral, as we see it today, is the result of radical reconstructions of the old paleochristian basilica (5th-6th century), characterized by five naves and four rows of columns, to trace the structure of what was then the basilica of San Pietro in the Vatican. Already changed in a Romanesque sense in the Middle Ages, the massive 12th century bell tower remains from that period. In the second half of the sixteenth century it was Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527 - 1596) who rebuilt the choir and half of the church located to the east, while in the eighteenth century another great architect, Benedetto Alfieri (1699 - 1767), carried out the projects for the pronaos and the facade, in which markedly neoclassical features are already visible. Sorry for the loss of the primitive church, however the current Sant'Eusebio is certainly of considerable scenic impact.

Anche solo così vista da fuori mi è piaciuta molto.
