★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went to the Abbadia di Vallombrosa last week and was very disappointed. No one there, it was unattended and from afar it looked very unkept. The garden was nothing to boast about, looked more like a littlevegetable garden. Nothing spectacular inside. Very disappointed.

Funded in the 11th century by San Giovanni Gualberto, a Florentine Monk who fought all life long against corruption and was very much appreciated by Pope Alexander the II, this Abbey is still a shelter of prayer, silence and beauty.
Around the Abbey, you can enjoy fresh air and relief from heat in the warm season, when many people escape the surrounding cities to reach Vallombrosa (shadowed valley), its beautiful parks and forests.
