★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A very peaceful family self catering villa in rural Italy. Private magical location hidden in the Almond groves near Alberobello. Beautiful pool and outdoor seating with a cosy traditional Italian 'trulli' to retire to in the evenings. Fab restaurants nearby. Highly recommended by all.
Edit: revisited Aug 2019
Puglia Paradise. Holidays for the soul. Golden light, beautiful food, artisan ceramics & 6 peelie-wallie Scots!
Hidden amongst the almond and olive groves in the hills above Alberobello the traditional stone Trullo Genna was just magical. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Susan (who manages the trullo) had organised a taxi to a local eatery and was waiting for us on arrival to guide us in and show us around.
The trullo is completely private with views out over the surrounding orchards and olive groves. We loved spending lazy days by the beautiful pool, lunches on the shaded terraces and evening nightcaps under the stars. My parents stayed in the master bedroom looking up into the huge, beautifully lit trulli cone which is just spectacular. The other bedrooms are slightly smaller but just as characterful with traditional stone archways and cones.
We had some fabulous days out around Puglia. We highly recommend a trip into local Alberobello with it's trulli lined streets, although quite touristy there are some lovely reasonably priced bars and restaurants. Polignano a Mare is also worth a visit with its picturesque cove, beach and bustling old town. Matera really is like something out of this world with its narrow streets and houses carved from the rock. When we visited they were filming James Bond car chases which added to the drama!
For shopping look no further than the fabulous 'Aladdin's cave' of ceramics at Grottaglie. There is a whole street of locally made ceramic shops. Our favourite was Enza Fasano which was brilliant. We bought some tableware and had it shipped home. The famous splattered plates come from here!
Our favourite restaurant is Masseria Don Gianvito, agritourism at its best with the most fabulous feasts served on the farm.
I cannot recommend Trullo Genna enough, such a magical base to explore an extraordinary part of the world. If you haven't been, go!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a relaxing two week holiday in this beautiful 'Trullo' villa, located near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello, Puglia. With its own pool, extensive private grounds filled with Olive & fruit trees, this stunning villa was spacious, well equipped & tastefully decorated. Easily accessible to nearby shops/restaurants & all the major tourist sites in the area I would definitely recommend a holiday at Trullo Genna.
