A scopo difensivo, furono erette più torri di avvistamento, così da poter dare allarme in caso di avvicinamento di battelli aggressori. Una di queste sorge a Posillipo alto ed è detta Torre Ranieri.
During the sixteenth century, the coasts of the Neapolitan territory were marred by raids of Berber pirates. For defensive purposes, more watchtowers were erected, so as to be able to give alarm in case of approaching attacking boats. One of these rises in Posillipo alto and is called Torre Ranieri.
