Casamicciola Terme - Pio Monte della Misericordia ... Work in Progress ... Fu fondato a Napoli nel 1602 il Pio Monte della Misericordia da 7 nobili in piena controriforma per esercitare le “sette opere della Misericordia corporali” fra le quali c’è quella di “curare gli infermi”. Per curare gli infermi poveri i Governatori – così si chiamano gli amministratori secondo l’antico Statuto – costruirono nel 1604 a Casamicciola nell’isola d’Ischia un “ospedale” per curare attraverso l’acqua termale “miracolosa” che il medico di corte, Julio Jasolino, aveva decantato nel suo libro “De rimedi naturali che sono nell’isola di Pitecusa oggi detta Ischia” che per due secoli è stato il più importante trattato di idrologia medica sulle acque termali dell’isola d’Ischia. Due secoli dopo – cioè agli inizi del 1800 – questo “ospedale” era diventato una imponente costruzione nella Piazza dei Bagni del Gurgitello e costituì la struttura fondamentale per l’affermazione di Casamicciola fra le più importanti stazioni di cura d’Europa poiché nacquero altri stabilimenti termali, alberghi e ville residenziali. Il terremoto del 28 luglio 1883 distrusse tutta Casamicciola ed anche il grande complesso ma i Governatori dell’Ente decisero di costruirne un altro “in più ferma sede” e così appena 12 anni dopo il terribile sisma fu inaugurato il nuovo maestoso complesso giù verso la Marina collegato alle fonti del Gurgitello da un acquedotto imponente per circa 500 metri. piomontemisericordia.
