I romani identificarono con Venere, era, secondo Omero, figlia di Zeus e della ninfa Dione), e il santuario della Dea Demetra (figlia di Crono e di Rea, sorella di Estia, Era, Zeus, Posidone e Ade) e Kore (Persefone figlia di Demetra, entrata nella religione romana come Proserpina, era la sposa di Ade).
 In the acropolis there are the remains of the temple of Aphrodite (Goddess of beauty, love, generation and spring. Unfortunately, little remains of the Temple of Aphrodite: its square blocks were used to rebuild Palazzolo, after the devastating earthquake of 1693. It was identified thanks to the discovery of an ancient inscription.
