Taverna Malanotte

The hidden gem of Bellano. A lovely little taverna with excellent traditional menu and exquisite wine selection. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and we will definitely go back there again.

I will try to justify my two star rating as simply and clearly as possible - we've travel around the world quite a bit, but never ever we have been served food from the microwave oven. After placing the order, gentleman walked to the back, brought three portions of risotto with him, placed them in the microwave and a few minutes later with a distinctive 'ding!', our food was ready... And yes, the microwave is located just behind the counter, right in the view (but when we entered the place, it didn't cross our mind it can be for real...). Food quality was exactly as you can imagine, so called risotto had hard outer shell, when you broken through it, you had big chunks of risotto rice beaten together, absolutely tasteless. The only upsides were the older couple who was helping to serve us the food as they were super nice (the rest was handled by some younger gentleman) and the glass of wine which we ordered with the meal, which was also very good - only two reasons why rating is not full one star. I can bet place is great for wine tasting, but please avoid it for any dinners, walk few hundred meters and there is a great place on the corner, serving really good (and fresh!) risotto. [EDIT] In reply to owners comments: sorry if I could not appreciate the special way you are preparing risotto, we have eaten later 200m from your place and we got the "fresh" risotto we have expected. And to be clear, I did not say "the old couple" but "older", as they were in fact oldER than significantly younger (!) gentleman who was taking the order, can't see anything wrong with this description. I am sure you are more than perfect place to taste wine, but if you are advertising 3 dishes outside the place, please add at least info "reheated" or something, so you do not make impression of restaurant that you are not.

We stopped here our first full day in Bellano, September 2018. We were staying much higher (350 feet up!) up and had no car. I wanted to get a case of wines, mixed. The kind owner showed us several and we even tasted a few. What a surprise when the owner offered the delivery of the wine free of charge to our apartment! These are very kind people.

This wonderful 500 years old tavern offers a rich set of wonderful wines. Even if you want something special and it is not available now, the host will find it for you, just come next day. If you are in doubt, he is always ready to advise and recommend in a very good English. A nice place for experiencing the taste of great Italian wines.

Top quality homemade food, nice service, good selection of wines and all this for a very reasonable price tag. We’ve been there for lunch and have been pleasantly surprised by hospitality and meals, that were simple and very tasty. We’ve taken fried risotto, lasagna and fried vegetables. Just a point about fried risotto - what’s served in Taverna Malanotte is exactly how the dish is made in traditional milanese restaurant. It should not taste like a “normal” risotto - it’s a different dish! Pay attention to the stand outdoor - it lists dishes that are not available in menu, this was a bit frustrating.

We went to this taverna by chance and turned out to be the perfect way to close our day there. The taverna is located in an old building around 400 years old and it is the perfect place for wine. They have a lot of variety and they are experts to help you choose the best for you. Of course you can have some homemade food too, (we tried Lazania and Melitzana parmezano) both were amazing. The people who own the bar are really friendly and the service was one of the best so far. PS they were speaking multiple languages, and the communication was pleasant. I totally recommend to visit it! Thank you for the nice time there. Was really nice.

Wow, five stars aren’t enough for this place, set in a beautiful Italian alleyway, everything from the moment you step in is special. The owners are welcoming and accommodating, the food is incredible. Apart from the wide range of wines on offer, the Bruschetta, the Lasagne, the Tiramisu, and of course the Chocolate Cake are out of this world. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Amazing experience ! Fantastic food and fantastic people. After a few nights in Bellano with no luck as to finding good food, we stumbled onto this little wine tavern. Little did we know this would be our best experience and most memorable one of our trip. We started with wine, cheeses and ham which already got us filled. We then had lasagna and vegetarian lasagna that tasted just like the ones my Italian grandparents make, it was amazing. Even though this tavern isn’t technically a restaurant, the food they had to offer was absolutely delicious and authentic. To finish, we tried all the deserts, all home made by the wife. They were equally as delicious as the meal. An elderly couple and their son own this tavern. We were the only ones in the restaurant that night and ended up chatting with the couple for a few hours, making the entire experience even more special and authentic. The atmosphere of the place also feels very authentic. I have honestly nothing bad to say about this place, even the service was great. They were efficient, listened and advised well on what drinks to choose. Additionally, these people were the nicest people we encountered in our stay there, they felt genuinely kind hearted. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely come again if I ever get the chance to!
